Basic Care Information

At KHEM Studios, we design and make all our products with long lasting beauty in mind. Below are some basic care instructions to help you keep the boards looking their best.

Many clients ask us is it okay to cut on the boards? Yes! If you want the best of both worlds, use one side for cutting and the other for presentation for special occasions. These boards are made for use!

Please note, all our products are made from furniture-grade kiln-dried hardwoods. They are finished with natural food safe oils and wax to provide a luxurious finish that will protect the product with use. It is critical that you reapply the oil and wax to keep your wood products at their most optimal stable state. Wood is an organic material that is sensitive to moisture and heat levels. Oil and wax helps stabilize the wood.

Cutting & Serving Board Care:

We recommend you clean the boards with warm water and soap. Hand dry the board and store in a dry place. Never place a board in the dishwasher or leave in standing water.

Advice on food stains:

To remove food stains from a wooden cutting board, start by sprinkling a generous amount of coarse salt over the stained area. Then, cut a lemon in half and use one of the halves to scrub the salt into the board. The abrasiveness of the salt, combined with the acidic lemon juice, helps to lift the stains. After scrubbing for a few minutes, let the mixture sit on the board for about 5-10 minutes. Finally, scrape off the salt and lemon residue and rinse the board with warm water. Dry it thoroughly with a clean cloth to prevent warping. This method is effective for most food stains and also helps to deodorize the cutting board.
